The Edmonton and District Quilt Guild 40th Anniversary Prairie Rose challenge was to make a quilt using inspiration from a magazine page 40. My page instantly reminded me of a morning I was running in Strasbourg, France in 2016. The streets were quiet! The locals and tourists had not yet started their days. The smell of fresh baking bread filled the air as I passed countless bakeries.
This piece is based on one of those bakeries. The page I selected is an almost perfect replica of the quaint store front. There were two old gentlemen sipping coffee and chatting quietly. In the background Chopin's Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2 in Eb major for Violin filled the tiny shop and adjacent street. This piece brings me back to that magical morning in France!
