In August 2018, Mama and I spent several hours together sorting through her fabric stash, quilting supplies and patterns. Despite being very tired, Mama had a plan for me. In the quiet of our time together she asked a very special request. She asked if I would consider making quilts for her beautiful sisters using her stash. Mama's request came with great love and pride. She knew she was sick and knew she would never be able to make quilts for her.
I promised her that day, that the quilts I make for her would be constructed with as much love as she would put into them herself. We spent time choosing patterns and fabrics. We laughed and we cried!
This quilt is a modern pattern that Mama thought Rebecca would like. It has a simple design with improvisation blocks using a batik jellyroll from her stash. I designed one block and got her approval to continue. The finished quilt has two layers of Hobb's 80/20 white batting.
"Rebecca, my darling, this quilt is made especially for you. Whenever you see it, don't be sad because I am no longer here, but use it as a reminder that I will keep you warm, dry your tears and cover you with love for the rest of your days. I love you so much"! Love, Nanny
